National Means cum Merit Scholarship (NMMS)

National Means Cum Merit Scholarship examination is conducted in one stage only for selection of stipulated number of candidates as per district quota Each year the NMMS examinations is being conducted in Government or Government aided institutions for students appearing in standard VIII in respective years. The total number of 3314 scholarships are disributed among 30 districts. there is district wise reservation of scholarships for SC, ST, SEBC and Physically handicaped candidates.

Scholarship Amount: Eligible students receive ₹12,000 per annum (₹1,000 per month). Duration: The funds support education from Class 9 through Class 12. Direct Transfer: Money is credited directly to the student’s bank account via the Public Financial Management System (PFMS)

Class: The student must be studying regularly in Class 8. School Type: Government, local body, or government-aided schools only. Exclusions: Students from private schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV), Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV), and Sainik schools are not eligible. Academic Record: A minimum of 55% marks in Class 7 is required (50% for SC/ST categories). Family Income: The total parental income from all sources must not exceed ₹3.5 Lakh per annum

The selection is based on a state-level exam consisting of two primary papers, each lasting 90 minutes Mental Ability Test (MAT): Focuses on reasoning, analogies, classification, and patterns. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): Covers Class 7 and 8 level science, social studies, and mathematics.
